Seasonal Lawn and Ornamental Shrubbery Planner

Winter December 22 to March 21

  • Lawn should be kept free of leaves and other debris.
  • Hard prune or cut back ornamental shrubbery to desired shape.
  • Remove lower limbs on deciduous trees for improved sun light to turf areas.
  • Apply pre-emergence to lawn and ornamental shrubbery bed areas to help control spring and summer weed varieties

Spring March 22 to June 20

  • Cut turf areas to lowest cutting height possible without scalping
  • De-thatch and or core aerate lawns.
  • Apply sand or other organic materials as top dressing for improved growth and leveling.
  • Check lawn and ornamental shrubbery for over wintering insects.
  • Apply systematic insecticide to ornamental shrubbery
  • Apply pre-emergence to lawn and shrubbery beds to help control summer weed varieties
  • Apply fertilizers to turf areas
  • Apply fertilizers to ornamental shrubbery
  • Install mulch to bed areas for beauty, improved moisture control and water conservation

Summer June 21 - Sept 22

  • Apply water to lawn as needed or the equivalent of 1 inch of rainfall per week
  • Mow turf areas every 7 to 14 days at desired height
  • Apply fertilizers to turf areas
  • Prune non-deciduous shrubbery to maintain shape
  • Prune Azaleas after all blooms have fallen or died.
  • Apply fall pre-emergence to help prevent winter weed varieties

Autumn September 23 to December 21

  • Maintain highest summer mowing height to lawn areas for winter protection
  • Apply fall fertilizer to ornamental shrubbery
  • Apply low nitrogen fertilizers to help maintain soil nitrogen content
  • Collect and or remove leaves from bed and lawn areas
  • Cut perennials to the ground and cover with mulch for winter protection
  • Apply Horticultural Oil to ornamental trees and shrubbery to help control over wintering pests.
