How Often Should Pest Control Come? Why Alabama Is a Bi-Monthly State

Quarterly is the national default. Alabama is not a national-default climate. Here is what the treatment barrier actually does over sixty days of heat and rain, why the gap between quarterly visits is when the ants come back, and when monthly or one-time service makes more sense.

Most pest control in the country is sold quarterly, because most of the country has a winter. Alabama has a mild one, a long humid summer, and fifty-plus inches of rain a year, and the products applied to the outside of a house do not last as long here as the quarterly schedule assumes. The frequency question is really a question about how long the barrier holds.

What an exterior treatment is

Routine pest control is mostly a residual barrier: a product applied to the foundation line, the eaves and soffits, door and window frames, the garage threshold, and the shaded cover where insects wait out the day. It stays active on those surfaces and insects that cross it pick it up. It is not a force field; it is a chemical that breaks down over time, and the things that break it down are sun, heat, and rain.

Why about sixty days

In Alabama's summer, the barrier applied in June is meaningfully weaker by August. UV degrades it, a string of ninety-degree days speeds that up, and every heavy rain washes some of it off the exposed surfaces. A quarterly plan treats every ninety days, which leaves roughly a month each cycle where the barrier has worn off and nothing new has gone on. That month is when the ant trail shows up in the kitchen and the roaches come out of the crawlspace. It is not that quarterly service does not work; it is that the gap is where the calls come from. Bi-monthly — every other month, six visits a year — keeps the reapplication ahead of the breakdown for most of the year.

When monthly makes sense

Mosquito and tick service is monthly through the season by necessity; the treatment on foliage and resting sites is more exposed and breaks down faster, and the insects reproduce in days. Some commercial accounts — restaurants, food handling, multi-family — run monthly because the tolerance for a single roach is zero. A home with a heavy interior problem sometimes starts monthly and steps down to bi-monthly once it is under control.

When one-time makes sense

A wasp nest. A one-off flea treatment after a foster dog. A fire ant yard application. A German cockroach cleanout with a follow-up. These are jobs with an end, and it is reasonable to pay for them as jobs. What does not work as a one-time treatment is general pest pressure in an Alabama yard, because the pressure does not end; the treatment just wears off.

What EnviroCare does

The base plan is bi-monthly exterior service — $35 a month on a 12-month ACH agreement or $70 per visit, with a $75 initial service, interior treatment as needed, and free re-service between visits if something shows up early. Mosquito and tick run monthly March through October. Termite protection is its own schedule under Sentricon®, with annual inspection. The honest answer to how often is: often enough that the barrier is never the weak point, and in this climate that is every other month.
